Island Shop Sign

DSC05737

YAY! My first wooden sign!  :)

Wanna know how I made it?

First, I got a cheap sign at TJMAXX, for just U$1!  :)

I sanded only the part with the letters, because I liked the little details around it.

So, painting came next with same blue I’m using to update our guest bathroom. More info here and here.

I know it’s a different kind of blue shade. But, in the end, doesn’t matter since the sign will be sanded over to give the old look.

After that, I printed my sign using MS Word.

On the other side of the sign, I shaded with a pencil, so I could outline the letters.

Oh, a permanent ink pen helped me to outline.  I confess I was a little nervous to paint it…

Then, things got a little dirty with a bit of Antiquing liquid.

 Sanded all down and…

TA-DA!  :)

See? I think the different shades of blue gave more “authenticity” to the sign.  :)

My intention is to hang this sign above the closet in the entry way… Just to add some humor.  :)  But, I can’t hang now, I gotta finish painting that wall first…

Did I inspire you to do one of these?  :)

Brazilian Portuguese Translation

Yes! Minha primeira placa de madeira!  :)

Ah, uma canetinha (tinta permanente) me ajudou a contornar.

Love the sign. I’ll be scouring my TJMaxx and Marshalls for something like this. Thanks for the idea and how-to!

very very pretty – I love the blue shading. I use the same lettering process in my sign painting projects & it sure does seem to work out well. Yours turned out fantastic!

      Definitely! :)
Specially when you’re not sure how to start (like me!), it makes things so much easier. :)
      xoxo
